"Our Nüdel Kart continues to be one of the highlights in our school day. The creative interactions are endless and unique every time we use it I can testify that I had the Nüdel Kart out for over 1.5hrs and there was not a single ‘squabble’. Every single child was totally engaged for the duration, they were collaborating , problem-solving, creating and innovating. My senior class are always just as engaged, the year six boys said they wished they could take the Nüdel Kart home. I look forward to to the many years of fun and adventure with our Kart. Thank you from one very grateful teacher!"

“Nüdel Kart doesn’t say anything to the child, deliberately, and in saying nothing it allows the child to say anything"

AROUND THE WORLD
Nüdel Kart has been tested in refugee camps and even airports
LEBANON 2018 TRIAL
Our team trialed the Nüdel Kart in Refugee Camps in Beirut
This project was led by Marcus Veerman, founder and CEO of Playground Ideas, and Matt Green, designer and implementer at Playground Ideas. It was documented by Roger Ungers, who has produced the feature length film The Wheels of Wonder.
Despite plenty of planning, the group were faced with numerous challenges while constructing and trialling the Nüdel Kart prototype with the city’s refugee children. The film documents the making of the Nüdel Kart and how it was received by the children who were given the opportunity to use it. |
Along with highlighting the importance of play, The Wheels of Wonder also shines a light on the immense challenges facing those who have been forcibly displaced, combining politics with uplifting moments of strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
UPDATE: Since filming, this area was obliterated by the devastating explosion on August 4th 2020 that killed at least 207 people and left 300,000 homeless. |

KINGDOM OF LESOTHO
The World Tour: Trial 3
Thanks to a local partner, Chris Mcevoy at Maliba Lodge, in August 2018 we sent a Nüdel Kart and a Playworker to the Kingdom of Lesotho. A tiny country, landlocked by South Africa, Cat our play worker, spent a week at a local primary School.
Matsepo is an amazing local teacher who created and runs her own ‘Creativity’ subject, geared to non rote learning which is extremely rare. Together, she and Cat ran sessions with both students and teachers. |
At the end of the week 22 teachers from 2 valleys, representing 15 different schools were armed with tools and information about the importance of play for learning and development.
We get regular updates from Matsepo about the ripple effect of play through the Valleys, and she continues to use the Nüdel Kart regularly with curriculum across the entire school from prep to grade 6. |

SAN DIEGO AIRPORT
Innovation Lab 2019
Nüdel Kart was given the opportunity to interact with airport stakeholders to develop and test the Nüdel Kart idea with more than 25 million passengers at the third busiest single-runway airport in the world trial as part of the San Diego Airport Innovation Lab.

This is perfect! My kid will play here, and then sleep on the plane.” |
I’ll just wait and board last, I want her to have more play time!” |
That was SO much fun! Will you be here Thanksgiving?” |
Such an innovative idea! Super cool!” |
Have you noticed my kids haven’t argued once? They would be fighting over what game to play on the IPAD if it weren’t for this.” |
